Offended

Dear Editor,

I am offended by the political cartoon in this morning’s paper (Monday, 10/14/16).

I have been offended by much of what has appeared in this paper, and by many of the opinions expressed by this paper, over the course of the presidential election.

It is not unusual for newspapers to take political positions that may/may not reflect the positions of many of their readers, hence the vast number of political endorsements issued in support of the presidential candidates.  But Warren is a small town, and the Warren Times Observer is a small town newspaper.  And this presidential election was unlike any other in my lifetime, and maybe in the history of presidential elections.  The hurt, disappointment, fear and raw emotion that has resulted from the outcome of this election is not to be ignored but, rather, it is to be recognized and respected.

As this newspaper recently reported, there are more than 10,000 registered Democrats in Warren County.  Not an insignificant number.  It’s safe to assume that they are not all pleased with the way things have turned out.

“p1″>I think you do this community a disservice by using our newspaper as a forum for your personal political opinions.  I think you could better serve this community by acknowledging that many of your subscribers are hurting.  Perhaps you could use your bully pulpit to issue words of consolation and encouragement and unity.  An “opinion” that we could all get behind.  And, if you did it right, it would not require that you disparage either candidate, even the one who you opposed.

Margaret Nicklas,

Warren
