Gay Mack, of Adelphi, MD, passed away September 5, 2026.
Gay was born June 25, 1939, to Robert Gleason and Inez (Young) Gleason at the family farm in Russell, PA. Her parents moved to Maitland, Florida, when she was a child. Gay started school there at Forest Lake Elementary. In 1950, the family moved to Takoma Park, Maryland, where she attended Sligo School, Takoma Academy, and Washington Missionary College, graduating with a degree in English in 1960. During her junior year, she attended Newbold College in England, where she made many lifelong friends. Her first job after college was teaching English at Loma Linda Academy in California. After two years there, she returned to Maryland and taught at Takoma Academy. During this time, she was introduced to Roger Mack. They married on July 18, 1965, at Takoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church and enjoyed 52 years together. In the 1970's, Gay took time away from teaching to be a stay-at-home mother to her two daughters. In the 1980s, She returned to work at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and later transferred to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), where she was administrative assistant to the Vice President of Finance. She retired in 2004, and moved back to Russell, PA, where she enjoyed spending time with her family, entertaining, and antiquing. During her final years, she moved back to Maryland to be closer to her daughters and cared for her husband who preceded her in death in 2018. She passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026, at The Village at Rockville Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by two siblings, Gary Gleason and Dell Bond, and her daughters, Jessica Mack and Sylvia Mack.
