Gary William Anderson

1954-2026

Gary William Anderson

Gary William Anderson, 72, of Glenburn and most recently, Wiscassett, passed away surrounded by his family just after sunrise on September 25th, 2026, after an aggressive battle with Parkinson's. He was born July 10, 1954, in Warren, PA, the son of the late Sylvia (Woodruff) and Carl (Bill) Anderson.

Gary grew up in Warren, Pa and was a 1972 graduate of Warren High School. He spent his childhood engaged in Boy Scouts, earning rank of Eagle Scout, hunting and fishing with his grandfather and playing music. After High School, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1976, a Master's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1978 and finally, a Doctorate from Virginia Tech in 1982.

After finishing his education, he settled in Bangor, Maine and started his employment at the University of Maine in Orono as an Animal & BioScience Specialist within Cooperative Extension, where he worked until his retirement in 2020. He enjoyed helping farmers and farming families from across the state and New England with their needs, but his favorite was always the dairy farms. If you owned a dairy farm, you knew Gary and Gary knew you.

Gary enjoyed spending his free time outside. He loved being in the woods grouse hunting with his Brittanys, his sons and his friends. If it wasn't grouse hunting season, he enjoyed being on the water fishing, tying flies or training the dogs for next fall. He was an active member of the Central Maine Brittany Club, serving as President for several years. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and recitals, no matter how far away they were. Hunting, fishing and his job took him all over the state; there wasn't a town or road Gary didn't know and the notes in his gazetteer's contained coveted information on the best tote roads to walk and streams to fish.

Gary is survived by his sons, Matthew (Kaleigh) of Scarborough and Eric (Emily) of West Bath; his sisters, Ellen Scalise, Emily Cassidy (Jim) and Kristen Baughman (Brian); his grandchildren, Rachel, Colin, Austin, Ellis, Ivy, Everett and Esme; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Mark Scalise. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff with Islebrook Village in Wiscasset, Horizon's Living & Rehab in Brunswick and the hospice staff with Constellation Health Services.

Per Gary's ask, there will be no formal service, but the family plans to do a celebration of life in the near future. Please email AndersonInfo123@yahoo.com if you'd like to know the details, when finalized.
