Judith Marlene Fry, 76, of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family after an extended illness.
Judy was born on July 1, 1950 in Jamestown, NY to the late William Sr. and Evelyn (Stufflebeam) Sweeney.
Judy's endless desire to help family, friends, and community was shown through her thousands of hours of support and volunteerism. Judy served as the Sugar Grove Borough Secretary for numerous years. If Judy wasn't in the crowd cheering on loved ones at an event, she was donating her time. Judy fondly volunteered years as a member of the Eisenhower Football Boosters where she could be recognized as one of the loudest cheerleaders in the stands. She also contributed time to the Sugar Grove Free Library and Sugar Grove Outpost. She was instrumental in establishing Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50 Auxiliary, including motivating them to earn recognition as the National Auxiliary of the Year. Judy worked her way to becoming the AMVETS State Auxiliary President.
Additionally, Judy was key in implementing both the Sugar Grove Christmas Walk and Sugar Grove Freedom Walk. Judy's compassion for veterans led her to volunteer countless hours at the Warren VA Clinic and many other veterans activities, including organizing picnics at the Erie VA Hospital. If Judy found time for herself, she was often seen with Gary on walks around town, playing softball, doing yoga at the church, or exercising with the Sugar Grove Ageless Athletes. She was also known to scrapbook and spend hours crafting the perfect homemade cards to send to anyone and everyone.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Fry, her children, Amy (Jamie "Jiggsy") O'Donnell of Sheffield and Craig Fry of Washington, PA, her sister, Rebecca (Jeff) Wilbur of Oklahoma, her sisters-in-law, Donna Fry of Russell and Mary Sweeney of Ashville, NY, her grandchildren, Carter and Brady O'Donnell, Dexter and Molly Fry, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by a brother, William Sweeney Jr. and two sisters, Kathleen Sweeney and Marjorie Roy.
Friends will be received on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St., Sugar Grove, PA 16350, from 2-5 pm at which time a memorial service will be held there. A private burial will be in the Wesleyan Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Ave, Warren, PA 16365, or to a veterans' organization of your choice.
