Barbara Anne Giegerich passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2026, surrounded by her family. Her parents were Donald and Anne (Vescio) Smith. She had a stepbrother, Junie, and a stepsister, Carolyn.
Barb graduated from Warren Area High School in 1964. She then attended Bryant & Stratton Business School in Buffalo, N.Y. Later on, she graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a master's degree in counseling. She spent decades helping individuals with disabilities and adults with addiction issues through tireless service in private practice and with various non-profits.
She was married to Craig Giegerich of Youngsville, Pennsylvania. While serving with the Marine Corp in in Vietnam, through pen pal letters they developed a relationship. They raised two children, Donald and Tricia.
Barb and her husband, Craig, had many cats and dogs. They also fostered puppies and kitties to ready them for adoption. They spent summers at a beach along the East Coast. Craig sadly passed away in 2022. He is honorably buried in the Veteran's Cemetery in Amelia County, Virginia.
Barb has three grandchildren. They include Angela Doyle, Donald Jay Giegerich II, and Paul Johnson, Jr. She cherished and loved them all as they did her.
Overcoming many physical challenges, she lived a full and rewarding life. Her two best friends from third grade, Nancy and Suellyn, will attest to this fact. Peace to her memory.
