Samuel J. “Poppy” Ferraro

Samuel J. "Poppy" Ferraro, 92, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Friday, July 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Samuel was born on August 22,1933, a son of the late Charles and Concetta "Mary" Vaccaro Ferraro.

Samuel attended Jamestown Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and he was stationed in Germany.

Samuel worked for Art Metal and later was self-employed as a paint contractor finishing work on homes.

He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, hunter and fisherman. He collected coins, enjoyed sitting on his front porch and putting together jigsaw puzzles. He went to coffee time every day at Tim Hortons with his friends. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren they seemed to gravitate toward him; he was a baby magnet and loved holding all the grandbabies.

Samuel is survived by two daughters: Terry-Jo (Gary) Bjorkquist and Jody Ann (Dave) Slater, a son: Chuck Ferraro; five grandchildren: Keith Campbell, Sarah (Ryan) Turney, Jake (Amber) Arrance, Danielle Ferraro and Samuel Ferraro; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Katie and Myah Campbell, Emma and Grace Turney, Ethan and Caleb Arrance, Zoey and Annabelle Ferraro, Joey and Owen Chamberlain; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Samuel is preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Helander Ferraro whom he married on March 31, 1956 at St. John's Catholic Church, Jamestown, N.Y. and who died on May 4, 2021; two brothers: Joe and Frank Ferraro and a son-in-law: Dan Arrance.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22nd from 1-4 PM at Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown Street, Sugar Grove, PA 13650.
