Victor A. Schnell

1930-2026

Victor “Vic” Alden Schnell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Culpeper, Virginia. He was born on January 18, 1930, the son of the late Isadore and Elvira “Vera” Schnell.

Vic spent much of his working life employed at National Forge in the melt house until his retirement. In addition to his work there, he also operated a carpet business, serving many members of the community over the years. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and willingness to help others.

Vic was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Youngsville, PA. He was also a proud member of Masonic Lodge #547 of Youngsville, PA, the Coudersport Consistory where he attained his 32nd Degree, and the Zem Zem Shrine of Erie, PA. Vic dedicated 50 years of volunteer service to the Youngsville Fire Department, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his community and helping others. He was also a longtime member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club for 65 years, where he enjoyed fellowship with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by Lucille Schnell, Beverly Schnell, and Marianne Schnell; his brothers, Claire and Marlin Schnell; his sister, Marilyn “Vonnie” Walters; and his sons-in-law, Gary Lape and Larry Stoddard.

He is survived by his children: Richard (Jill) Schnell of Chantilly, VA, Lee Ann Lape of Spring, TX, Lynda (Rodney) Blume of Culpeper, VA; his step-children, Rick (Judy) Slagle of Woodstock, GA, Jill (Dale) Waters of Hermiston, OR, and Gaye Stoddard of Sugar Grove, PA.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Melissa (Jeannie) Allen, Cain (Logyn) Blume, Allison (Devin) Minckler, Zachary (Megan) Lape, Matthew (Erin) Schnell, Travis (Gretchen) Schnell, Angela (Ryan) Warfield, Trib (Julie) Slagle, Amie (Dan) Hall, Drew (Shelly) Freeborough, Dane (Shayla) Freeborough, Andrea (Osten) Cerrillo, Chris (Tyson) Banker, and Nick (Hachimari) Waters; as well as 19 great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Vic always enjoyed talking about his great-grandchildren and had become quite skilled at FaceTiming with them, something that brought him tremendous joy and kept him closely connected with his family. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
