Ronald L. Balling
Ronald L. Balling
It is with both deep sadness and joyful hope that we announce the passing of Ronald Leon Balling, 81, of Youngsville, who went home to be with the Lord on March 27.
Ron was born on July 27, 1944 in Jamestown, NY to the late Leon and Lucille (Petit) Balling. He was known for his kindness and his devotion to his family and his church, First United Methodist Church of Youngsville.
He grew up on a farm in Stedman, NY and spoke fondly of that time in his life. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and his master’s degree from Cornell University and taught math at Cassadaga Job Corps Academy for many years. A former center director said, ” He worked very well with our students.”
Ron was passionate about teaching and helping others. He enjoyed serving his church in every way he could. Among many other acts of service, he was a Bible School teacher, the Chairman of the Trustees, served on Church Council and the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and checked on the church building nearly every day.
One of his greatest joys was playing with his beloved pets, his dog, Noelle, and his cat, Luckie. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife that visited near his window. He took pictures of the deer, birds, and squirrels almost daily and shared them with his family.
Ron is survived by the love of his life, Jane Balling; his stepchildren, Rachel Camp and Andrew (Beverly) Spore; his grandchildren, Rhys, Hannah, Sarah, Lydia, Megan, Joshua, Aaron, Liesl, Noah, Bomani, and Kasim; and his great-grandchildren, Connor, Kane, Broderick and Janie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Balling, and grandson, Micah.
Ron will be lovingly remembered for the love he had for his family, his pets, and his church family. He continued to care for Jane even after he became a resident of Warren Manor by calling to check on her several times a day, waking her on Sunday mornings so she wouldn’t be late to play the organ at church, and by fixing things from a distance. He was a wonderful stepdad and a supportive, loving, and proud grandpa.
A memorial service and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 225 E. Main St., Youngsville, PA 16371.
The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Youngsville, has been entrusted with all arrangements. Condolences to the family may be made at nelsonfuneralhome.net.
