Robert L. McCray

He was born on Dec. 27, 1951, in Corry, PA, a son of the late Richard and Marie (Hannan) McCray.

R.L. was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry Area High School in 1969. After high school, he attended Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1973. The very next day, R.L. started his career at The Corry Journal. He put in over 52 years of service throughout his life. When he wasn’t working for The Journal, he was working for the Warren Times Observer or the Erie Times News. Working was his passion; it kept him going and he loved being the Sports Editor. R.L. worked until he fell ill in October of 2025 and he missed it dearly.

He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, VFW Post 264, American Legion Post 365 and Corry Moose Lodge #98.

R.L. is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann (Majewski) McCray, whom he married on Aug. 24, 1991; sister, Teri Pokosh; two nieces, Jennifer (Tim) Marsell and Andrea Adams; nephew, Brian (Diana) Pokosh; godson, Mark Majewski II several great-nieces, great-nephews and his beloved dog, Emily.

A celebration of life will be held privately by the family at their convenience.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anna Shelter, 1555 E. 10th St, Erie, PA 16511, Orphan Angels Cat Sanctuary, 5439 W. Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16505 or the Erie Humane Society, 2407 Zimmerly Rd, Erie, PA 16506.
