R. William Holder
R. William Holder, 71, of Pittsfield, PA, passed away on Feb. 28, 2026.
Bill was born on June 6, 1954 in Warren, PA. He was the son of Robert W. (Bud) and H. Arlene Holder. He is survived by his spouse and best friend, Susan Wonderling; his step-daughter, Katelynn White; his sister, Mary Sue H. Carter (New Orleans); his niece Jen Howe Rezai; his nephew, Ron Howe; and nephew, Robert Carter, and their children.
Bill was a 1972 graduate of Warren Area High School. He began working at Crossett in 1970 in the shop, sweeping floors and washing trucks. He worked his way up through the ranks in the company, and developed their trucking software at a time when none was available. Bill was always exceptionally good with computers. After learning all the aspects of the company, he took over as President of Crossett upon the death of his dad. He retired and sold the company in 2009.
Due to his love for Aviation, Bill’s second career began when he purchased Brokenstraw Airport in 1992. Although no money was ever made, it brought him great happiness. His intent was to enhance and preserve the grass strip airport for the use of local pilots. Bill always kept his prices low so many more people could enjoy flying. He, along with other founding members, started the Brokenstraw Soaring Club and carried on the already established Warren Aviation Club. Together, Bill and Sue kept the Airport and field in pristine condition and always addressed the needs of the pilots.
Thanks to Bill’s thoughtful planning, his legacy will live on in very capable hands for many years to come. He made many additions and upgrades to the Brokenstraw Airport while it was in his care. It will now be passed on to other local flying enthusiasts for all to enjoy.
In addition to the many hours spent mowing at Brokenstraw Airport, Bill enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races with his friends, spending time at his family cottage and wintering in Florida at his airpark home.
Per Bill’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date to be announced at Brokenstraw Airport. Bill and Sue greatly appreciate the outpouring of love from family and friends these past few weeks.
