Darrell G. Ruby

Darrell G. Ruby

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Darrell Glenn “Rube” Ruby. On Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, he passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side following complications from an extended illness.

Darrell was born on May 5, 1954, in Erie, PA, to the late Fredrick and Bethel McCoy Ruby. He was the oldest of seven children.

On May 1, 1987 he married the love of his life Judy. Together they shared over 40 years of love, laughter, and family. He was a devoted husband, proud father to Heidi Ann and Heather Ann, and a cherished Papa to: Brad, Justin, Matt, and Arlo. His family was his greatest joy and he fought bravely to spend as much time with them as possible.

The Ruby family relocated to Warren County when Darrell was a young boy and he attended Warren Area High School. He later acquired his diploma and went on to multiple trade schools for mechanic and automotive fields, welding courses, and completing machining school. He received many diplomas and licenses over the years; also was very gifted at carpentry, construction, and tinkering with his brothers and friends with all their “toys” including model “rocket” planes and cars, and working on their vehicles together. Darrell worked many places over the years, starting at the age of 14; ranging from kinzua plastics in the 70’s, to Buffalo China, Phillips lighting, and owning his own construction business with his younger brother John, to Quality Market Floor Crew from which he retired in 2010. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, muscle cars, loud music, and good times with family and friends. He loved physical fitness and had studied and earned his brown belt through Rick Johnson’s Karate. He loved being outdoors and truly enjoyed hunting and target shooting. HIs legacy lives on in the stories, laughter, and lessons he leaves behind.

He is survived by his loving wife Judy (Young) Ruby, two daughters Heidi Ann Bastow of Warren, Heather Ann Ruby (Matthew Jenkins) of Warren, 2 step daughters Jennifer and Lori Willings both of Warren, 4 grandsons: Brad (David) Bastow of Wisconsin, Justin English of Warren, Matthew Porter of Warren, and Arlo Jenkins of Warren. He is also survived by siblings: Mickey Ruby of Warren, Brenda (Randy) Nuhfer of Youngsville, John Ruby of Warren,Beth (John) Boyd of Erie, cousins Milton (Champ) and Linda Goerlich of Warren, and James (Jimmy) and Susie Vitez of Warren, Craig Tipton and Larry (Lou) Armagost, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and his two cats Whiskers and Toby.

He was preceded in death by both of his beloved parents, two younger brothers Terry Ruby of Warren and Paul Ruby of Erie. His oldest nephew Georgie Biehls of Warren and several of his dear friends.
