Richard Spencer Newark

With God’s grace and in His perfect time, Richard Spencer Newark (Dick) of Lake Havasu, AZ went to his eternal home in Heaven on Jan. 15, 2026, following a brief illness. Dick was born at home in Starbrick on July 14, 1936, son of the late Lewis and Helen (Spencer) Newark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Newark; his sister, Burtress West; his grandson, Jeremiah Newark, and beloved homesteader Charlie Mason.

Dick is survived by Marcia L. Newark, his wife of 32 years; his sons Jim Newark of Montana, Richard (Cheryll) Newark of Starbrick, Jack Newark of Delaware, and Rick Norris of Starbrick; his nephew, Rick West of Akeley; eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Dick was a lifelong resident of Starbrick until escaping winter and moving to Lake Havasu in 2001. Dick and Marcia built a barn-dominium camp on the family homestead in Starbrick and spent summers there until 2021. Together they visited all 50 States, creating adventures and memories he treasured.

Dick retired from the National Forge in 1998 after 38 years of service primarily in metallurgical quality control and certification management roles. Prior to employment at National Forge, he worked at Warren State Hospital in farm and quarry operations.

For nearly 20 years, Dick was Scoutmaster of Troop 24 in Starbrick and was especially proud of the advancement and development of 32 Eagle Scouts during his service. His service was recognized with the National Eagle Scout Association Scoutmaster Award, the Silver Beaver Award – Boy Scouts highest volunteer award, and the Chief Cornplanter Council President’s Award.

Dick was a Freemason and Past Worshipful Master of the Stillwater Lodge in Youngsville. He was also a member of Shriners International, Zem Zem Shrine Club in Erie, and Warren County Shrine Club. For several years, he enjoyed participating with the Zem Zem Hornets zipping around in parades and competitions with precision go-kart routines. Dick took considerable pride in arranging and supporting patient services for children at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Erie.

A devoted member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu, Dick volunteered in a variety of servant ministries and fellowship roles. He lovingly made several hundred Palm Crosses that were distributed with Prayer Shawls and other outreach ministries. His faith in God, his love of family, friends, and service were all rooted in humility and guided Dick throughout his life.

A private service at Westview Cemetery in Starbrick will be held in the future according to Dick’s wishes. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Children’s Erie Hospital (814-875-8781).
