Peggy (Margaret Ann) Kellogg Nelson

Peggy (Margaret Ann) Kellogg Nelson

Peggy (Margaret Ann) Kellogg Nelson, 79, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice House.

Peggy was a “middle child,” born January 14, 1946, in Warren, OH, to Clarence and Mable Ward Kellogg, 4th of 7 children. Her parents were dairy farmers, first owning a Jersey farm near Orwell, OH, and then purchasing a farm near Garland, PA. She and her siblings learned responsibility and developed a strong work ethic growing up on their family farm. (In other words, do your chores first then you can play!). Peggy attended the 3-room grade school in Garland and was a 1964 graduate of Youngsville High School.

Peggy was the Borough Secretary in Youngsville for over 30 years before her retirement in December 2010. She served as Tax Collector for Sugar Grove Township for many years as well. Peggy’s working career began at the office of Irwin Manufacturing in Garland while she was still in high school. Over the years she worked in Warren at several other offices: Warren State Hospital, Pennco, Betty Lee, and Loranger.

Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Tom Nelson, and they had 48 years together before he passed away in March of 2013. In their younger years, Peggy and Tom rode motorcycle and attended a lot of dirt track races. They kept horses for a time when their girls were in 4-H. Peggy and Tom enjoyed boating at Kinzua Dam, camping, attending NASCAR Cup races, and whatever their kids and grandkids were doing! Tom was the family cook, but Peggy was the baker. Her family, especially her sons-in-law, loved her apple pies. Reading was her favorite pastime. After she quit smoking and her afternoon cocktail, Peggy liked to say hoarding books was the only vice she had left. She was a faithful Cup race fan and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She felt fortunate to have attended several races at 8 different NASCAR tracks as well as venturing to the Dominican Republic (twice), Tanzania, Mexico, and Ireland.

Peggy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Butch Southwell and Suanne and Fred Beardsley; her granddaughters, Sarah (Kyle) Lyon and Kirsten Beardsley; her grandson, Jared Beardsley; her great-grandsons, Thomas Matthew Rader and Isaac Paul Lyon; her siblings Jean (Jim) Scott, Willie (Joanne) Kellogg, George Kellogg, Jimmie (Peggy) Kellogg, Sam (Carol) Kellogg, and sister-in law Becky (Randy) Brown; 19 nieces and nephews and their families; a number of Ward/Kellogg cousins; and best friend, Cathy Swanson. Peggy is also survived by her husband’s family: his sister, Sue (Bob) Coons, brother, George (Kathy) Nelson, a niece and 3 nephews and their families, and several Rapp/Nelson cousins.

In additions to her husband and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Paula Southwell, her brother, Joe Kellogg, her nephew, Jeff Kellogg, her friend and “brother”, Dave Turner, her stepmother, Sadie Kellogg, her in-laws Ray and Mary Rapp Nelson, a dear friend, Sherryn Martin and her sister-in-law, Vera Kellogg.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14th from 2-5pm at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St, Youngsville, PA 16371. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15th at 11am at the First Lutheran Church, 109 W. 3rd Avenue, Warren, PA 16365, with the Rev. Jeff Ewing, pastor, officiating. A private burial will be held in Warren County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Community Foundation of Warren, (Paula Southwell Scholarship Fund), 310 Second Avenue, Warren, PA 16365, or the Youngsville Public Library, 100 Broad Street, Youngsville, PA 16371.
