Mark D. Axelson

Mark D. Axelson, 59, of Jamestown and Frewsburg, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025 in the ICU at ECMC under palliative care after complications from a kidney transplant he received Aug. 22, 2025.

He was born on March 3, 1966 in Jamestown, a son of David R. “Skip” Axelson and the late Joyce C. Connelly Axelson.

Mark was a 1984 graduate of Frewsburg Central School and took several college classes at Jamestown Community College and Empire State College.

He was a member of Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and a life member of the Frewsburg Fire Department. He was also a member of the Thule Dance Team for 30 years.

After college, Mark was employed at Jamestown Laminating Co and as a teacher at Ashville BOCES. For the last 20 + years he has been employed at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant currently as a 3D Design Drafter.

Mark loved animals, enjoyed woodworking and anything mechanical. He had the ability to figure out or fix anything with precision. He was a very hard worker, rarely sitting idle & a kind fun loving person that will be deeply missed by all that knew him, especially his quirky little sayings. One of his favorites was “Work smarter not harder.”

He is survived by his father David R. “Skip” Axelson (companion Pat Bartoldson); brother Scott Axelson; best friend and caregiver Peggy (Territo) Anzalone; and his four-legged companions Milo, Pumpkin, Howard, Onyx, and Dolcezza.

In addition to his mother Joyce, he was preceded in death by his sister Wendy Sue Axelson on Nov. 27, 1992; his paternal grandparents Ralph C. and Mary L Axelson; and special aunt & uncle, Sue & Dick Wright.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, Dec.17, 2025 at Kiantone Congregational Church. Rev. Mel McGinnis and Pastor Robert Benson will officiate.

Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.

Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Tuesday in the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
