J. Marilyn Derby
J. Marilyn Derby, a resident of the Rouse Home in Youngsville, passed on to her eternal life on Dec. 8, 2025. Marilyn was born in Warren, PA on Dec. 7, 1932, and was welcomed by her parents John and Ellen Dietsch. Her childhood years were spent as a Warren native. After graduating from WAHS in 1950, Marilyn lived in Houston, TX, Frewsburg, NY, Perrysburg, OH, Leesburg, FL, and finally back again to Warren before moving to the Rouse Suites, Youngsville, PA in 2023.
Marilyn was an active, involved person, who had a love of life wherever she was. Gardening was special to her as was painting, design, and color. Her decoration and wonderful household interior reflected all these passions. A lover of animals, she had a great love for the many cats and dogs that resided with her in her homes through the years. As a wonderful and accomplished cook, her many recipes will continue to nourish the soul.
She married Charles Eric Oberg of Frewsburg, NY and resided in Frewsburg for 14 years where she happily began raising four children. The family moved to Perrysburg, OH in 1969 where she spent the next 18 years before moving back to Warren. Marilyn’s love of travel helped spur her 15-year career as a travel agent for Hayes Travel and AAA in the Perrysburg/Toledo area as well as serving as Warren County’s first full-time Director of Tourism, a position she held for 6 years until her retirement in 1994 following the death of her late husband Charles.
She was encouraged by a relative to meet Edward Derby, a Frewsburg native, who had recently become a widower and after a short period of time they married in 1995. The next 28 years were spent traveling extensively in Europe, the United States, Asia, and the Middle East, in addition to enjoying gardening at their home in Warren before moving to the Rouse Suites.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Virginia Taraska; husbands Charles E. Oberg (2013) and Edward R. Derby (2025); along with two children Carole L. Finger (2013) and Daniel J. Oberg (2016). She is survived by two sons, David C. Oberg of Warren and John C. Oberg (Iris) of Auburn, CA; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by 2 nephews and 6 nieces.
Private services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, NY at the convenience of the family. Peterson Funeral Home is handling the final arrangements.
Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Warren or the Warren County Humane Society- Paws Along the River.
