Dorothy Eileen (Young) Cooper passed away on Sept. 14, 2025, at the age of 78 in Victoria, British Columbia. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she was the eldest of five children and the daughter of Edwin and Dorothy Young. Surviving siblings are Bruce, Doris, Edwin and David. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1965.

As the family’s champion, Eileen orchestrated a memorable family reunion in Colorado in 2008, pouring her heart and hands into the planning. Her joy was found in the success of others, her heart always open to those in need. She gave her time generously, never hesitating when someone needed her.

Eileen had a deep passion for both music and mathematics, and she excelled in both. After earning her Master’s degree in Mathematics, she moved to Canada, where she found her calling as a high school teacher of both Mathematics and Music. A natural educator, Eileen was an exceptional listener who guided others with firmness and fairness. Her warmth, generosity, and lifelong love of learning touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. Her legacy continues to resonate with those she taught and inspired. In recognition of her outstanding work, she was named British Columbia’s Teacher of the Year in the 1990s.

Eileen was a loving stepmother to Julian and Rebecca. She traveled well : Australia, Europe, across the US to visit family, exploring the cultures of Europe, connecting with family roots in Ireland. And her home was always open for visitors in return.

Beyond the classroom, Eileen’s talents extended to the stage. As a gifted singer and actor with productions of the Victoria Operatic Society. Her excellence was widely recognized–she received numerous awards and was frequently invited to adjudicate both locally and further afield, a testament to her skill and reputation.

Eileen was many things to those who knew her. She had a ready smile, the kindest eyes, a quick wit, and a sharp mind. She was strong, intelligent, and endlessly loving. Above all, she was deeply loved–and she will be profoundly missed.
