Donald L. VanOrd

Donald L. VanOrd, 89, of Russell, PA., died on his birthday, Aug. 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Warren, PA. Don was the son of the late Agidius and Marion Ludwick VanOrd. He was a lifelong Warren/Russell area resident. Don graduated from Northern Area High School in 1954 and attended Jamestown Community College. Don served with the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division from 1958 to 1961 as an E4.

He was employed for 15 years with Laco Contractors of Jamestown, N.Y., owned and operated a dairy farm in Sugar Grove, PA., and retired in 1998 from Lottsville Milling Company.He enjoyed raising Angus Beef Cattle and was a member of the Pennsylvania Angus Association, American Angus Association,Lander United Methodist Church and attended with his wife, at North Warren Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 313. Don enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren, reading, raising cattle, and anytime he could spend in a tractor seat. He was an avid baseball enthusiast, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Roxan S. Johnson PedersenVanOrd whom he married on Apr. 23, 1983, at North Warren Presbyterian Church, and renewed their wedding vows, Apr. 23,1998. 3 Children – Bryan L. VanOrd , Barry T. VanOrd and wife,Tammy all of Sugar Grove, PA., Jill D. Schutt and husband, Chris of Bettendorf, IA, 3 Step-children, Steven J. Pedersen and wife,Donna of South Elgin, IL., Jeffrey R. Pedersen and companion,Pam Davidson of Ludlow, PA., Jill D. Pedersen and wife, Melanie of Cleveland, OH., 1 Brother – Kenneth VanOrd and wife, Sharon of Charlotte, MI., 1 Sister – Margaret Dalrymple of Peachland,N.C., 15 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Magdalene Kaluza VanOrd who died in 1979, one step son,Timothy A. Pedersen in 2025, and 2 Brothers – Norman VanOrdin 2009, Robert VanOrd in 2012.

Family will receive friends at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home,Inc., 304 East St., Warren, PA., on Tuesday Aug. 12, 2025,from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Darrell L. Greenawalt,family friend, officiating. E-mail condolences may be sent by visiting www.lewisfuneralhomeinc.com.
