Robert Earl (Bud) Goldthwaite, Jr., 88 of Hawthorn Woods, IL, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. He was born on December 5, 1936 in Sheffield, Pennsylvania to Robert Earl Sr., and Pearl (nee Bloss) Goldthwaite.
Robert graduated from Sheffield High School in 1954 and soon after enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served from 1954 until 1957. After proudly serving our country, Robert attended Edinboro State Teachers College (now Edinboro University), and married the love of his life, Irene (Juban) on October 20, 1962 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sheffield, PA.
Following graduation, Robert began a career in management of systems development working at National Forge in Irvine, PA and the Los Angeles area, before relocating and settling in Illinois in 1978. Robert retired from a successful career in 2000 from Kenny Construction.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed golfing and for many years volunteered in major golf tournaments throughout the Chicagoland area. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus as well as St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Zurich where he was a lecturer for many years and volunteered for church event committees.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Irene; brother, Lee (Rita) Goldthwaite; sister-in-law, Daphne Goldthwaite; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn (Mike) Miller; and brothers, Joe (Linda) and Kenny Goldthwaite.
Visitation was held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 6pm until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Visitation will continue at the funeral home this morning from 9am until the time of prayer at 10am followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian burial at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 33 S. Buesching Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.
Visitation will be held in Sheffield, PA on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 6pm until 8pm at the Borden Funeral Home, 203 W Main St, Sheffield, PA 16347. A blessing service and parting prayers will be offered at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at the Borden Funeral Home. Father Mark O’hern from St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Sheffield, presiding. Committal and burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Sheffield, PA. Full military honors will be rendered by the Sheffield, Clarendon VFW’s and Warren American Legion as well as representatives from the United States Marines. A luncheon will be provided by the ladies of the church following the service at the Sheffield United Methodist Church, 11 West Main Street, Sheffield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s name may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Zurich, IL and St. Michael’s Cemetery Association in Sheffield, PA.
