Leah “Kay” McNeil Hummel
Leah “Kay” McNeil Hummel passed away on July 11, 2025, after spending several weeks surrounded by the family she was so proud of.
Kay was born on May 2, 1947, to the late Clifford and Ella McNeil. She worked for many years as a lunch lady for Warren County Schools and in group homes for Warren County Human Services.
On Dec. 28, 1963, she married Richard A. Hummel in Kane, Pennsylvania. Together they raised four children: Sherri (Colin) Brunecz, Shelli (Terry) Gray, Brent (Susanna) Hummel, and Travis (Amanda) Hummel.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Rachael (PJ) Nelson, Renae (Dexter) Davis, Rebecca (Kyle) Luther, Alicia Chase, Benjamin (Jennifer) Chase, Teagan Gray, John Hummel, Olivia Hummel and friend Randy Braswell, and Alex Hummel; her brother Ken McNeil of West Virginia; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brother Richard McNeil, sister Ruth Ackley, son John Hummel, and granddaughter Ana Hummel.
Kay was a passionate fan of Penn State football and wrestling and shared that love of sports with her family. She encouraged her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors, always urging them to give their best in everything they did.
She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time on their patio, where many conversations, laughs, and memories were shared.
Kay will be remembered for her strong will, determination, and the many family stories and inside jokes she helped create and never let anyone forget.
A celebration of life will be announced later at the convenience of the family.
