Forest “Woody” McMeans, 80, of Sheffield, PA., was found peacefully sitting on his couch, Sunday, July 27, 2025, at his residence.
Woody was born May 11, 1945, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Edison and Elizabeth Horrell McMeans.
He lived most of his adult life in Sheffield, PA. Woody was owner/operator of Woody’s Sporting Goods Store and worked as a tool and diemaker with Osram/Sylvania for over 20 years, retiring from there.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, the Sheffield Knights of Columbus and Warren Eagles Aerie.
During his children’s childhood, Woody helped coach any sport they were involved in. His children remember him as a man whose family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren, whom he played poker with using M & M candies as cash, Papa’s big breakfasts.
He was a great storyteller, wine maker, enjoyed bringing presents to people. Christmas was one of his favorite holidays. He was always the first to help if someone was in need. One of his biggest joys in life, was his wife, he loved her to the moon and back, their love was a great gift for others to see.
He is survived by his children – Timothy McMeans of Warren, PA., Scott McMeans and wife, Amy of Russell, PA., Michael McMeans and wife, Christy of Grand Rapids, MI., Michelle Figueira and husband, Edward of Bristow, VA., 11 Grandchildren – John, Madison, Ashlyn, Devin, Derek, Paige, Clara, Avery, Kylie McMeans, Gavin and Ryan Figueira, 2 Step Grandchildren – Morgan and Tanner Leichtenberger, 1 Great Granddaughter – Aurora, 3 Sisters – Patty Briggs and husband, Greg of Warren, PA., April Parker of Erie, PA., Autumn Lieberman of Pittsburgh, PA., In-Laws, Gloria Dugan, Sherry Richards both of Youngsville, PA., Joann McMeans of Warren, PA., James and Nancy Strickenberger of Tionesta, PA., Kathy Nale and husband, Tim of Venus, PA., Charlie and Wenda Strickenberger of Leeper, PA., several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elaine M. Strickenberger McMeans, whom he married July 16, 1966, at St. Michael R.C. Church in Fryburg, PA., who died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, his brothers – Redge & James McMeans, his sisters – Muriel Richards and Faith Joost, in-laws, John Strickenberger, Bob and Susie Carbaugh.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East St., Warren, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Sheffield, PA., with Fr. Mark O’Hern, Pastor, officiating.
Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Ascension in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery.
