Edward S. Yaegle

Edward S. Yaegle
Edward Seldon Yaegle was born Mar. 20, 1932, in Warren Pennsylvania. He was the son of Lloyd Yaegle and Mabel Billman-Yaegle, and had 3 brothers and 1 sister: Vern, Charles, James, and Shirley.
He remembered growing up in a tar paper house in Pleasant Township, and spending summers picking strawberries on his grandparent Billman’s farm along the Allegheny River. He attended Pleasant Schoolhouse in his early years.
The family moved around some, and by the time Ed was in 5th grade, the family had settled in Allison Park, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
Ed attended schools there, and in high school was a key player on the Hampton High School football team. Ed met Gail Frances Ritter in high school, and as seniors they were voted as the Cutest Couple. Ed graduated in 1951 and was drafted by the Army for the Korean War in 1952 and served 2 years; he was in the combat zone when the armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. Ed returned to the states in 1954 and married Gail on Feb. 12, 1955 at the Bakerstown Presbyterian Church.
Ed worked for the Otis Elevator Company as he and Gail set up household in Ingomar, north of Pittsburgh. With family help, he built the first house on Marymont Drive and the young family moved into the red brick home in 1961. In 1970, the family moved to Warren, PA -into an older home that required extensive remodeling. Ed also did remodeling work for some of the older family homes in downtown Warren, and in later years worked as a maintenance man for Warren State Hospital and Holiday Inn Hotel.
Ed took great pride in providing for his family; Gail was a stay-at-home mom for all the years of their marriage. They had 4 children: Karen, Paul, Thomas, and Deborah. Ed made sure the family had memorable vacations – whether they were road trips to NC, or camping trips to Warren. His children learned how to fish and hunt and camp and travel, as well as learned how to work with wood, car engines, and build stone walls and fireplaces. Ed was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was a former board member. He was a member of the Stillwater Masonic Lodge, where he earned his 60 year anniversary pin. Ed loved being a member of the Grotto-Shrine and was an assistant scout master for local Boy Scout Troop 24. He was also a member of the Lions in Youngsville.
In their golden years, Ed and Gail traveled extensively. They were snowbirds to Arizona for 10 years, and despite Gail’s map reading skills, actually arrived to their destinations. Once Ed’s RV driving skills matched Gail’s map reading skills, they resorted to cruises – Alaska, Caribbean, Bahamas – and bus trips with the local senior centers.
This last February, Ed and Gail celebrated 70 years of marriage. It was such a blessing for our family to witness this momentous occasion!
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his wife Gail, and 4 children: Karen Havird, Paul (Tonia), Tom (Amy), and Deborah Yaegle. Ed loved his 7 grandchildren: Sharaya, Keith, Ray, Matthew, Alison, Heidi, and Christa, and dearly loved his 10 great grandchildren.
