Kenneth A. Sorensen

Kenneth A. Sorense

Kenneth Andrew Sorensen, 99, of Scandia, Pennsylvania was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was born on Sept. 4, 1925, in Warren, Pennsylvania, the eldest son of Andrew and Myrtle (Andersen) Sorensen. He was a beloved brother to Marcia, Roger, Ron, Norm, Barb, Carol, and Gary.

A 1943 graduate of Warren High School, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy that December and served during World War II, primarily aboard the USS Bronson and the USS Guam as a radio operator attached to Admiral Frank S. Low. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

On June 21, 1947, Ken married Peryl Mae Pavkov in Warren, Pennsylvania. They shared nearly 62 years of devoted marriage until Peryl’s passing on Feb. 6, 2009. Through both sorrows and joys, “Gramp” and “Gram” created a legacy for their children, grandchildren, siblings, neighbors, and co-workers.

Ken worked as a lineman for Penelec and retired as a foreman in 1990. He pursued excellence in everything he did–including hunting, reloading ammunition, running, biking, welding, engine repair and more. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was an outstanding pitcher in Warren’s fast-pitch softball league throughout the 1950s, 60s, and into the early 70s when he shared the softball diamond with all three of his sons. A highlight of his playing days came in 1964, when his team defeated the “King and His Court.” Ken also enjoyed piloting small aircraft into his mid-70s.

A long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene, Ken served the Lord faithfully. He was confident of his personal salvation through Christ alone, fought the good fight, and shared his faith through countless acts of service.

He is survived by his four children: David (Joan) of Madison, WI, Douglas (Janice) of Russell, PA, D. Kevin (Mary) of French Camp, MS, and Kristine A. Rummel (Douglas) of Ocala, FL; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Marcia and brothers Roger and Norman.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 E. Pennsylvania Ave., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor J. Maier. Peterson-Blick Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Interment will be at Scandia cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Women’s Care Center of Warren, PA, or French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Warren County and Legacy Hospice in Mississippi for the compassionate care provided over the past several years.
