Richard Swick
Richard (Dick) Swick, 95, of Lake Worth, FL passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2025 with his wife of almost 70 years, Karen, by his side.
Born on July 5, 1929, Dick grew up in Warren, PA, and later raised his family there in the house his grandfather built. He had three children – Jim (Kim), Gary (Jeanine), and Beth. He also fostered Ed Daley and hosted several foreign exchange students who have become extended family. He was an elementary school teacher, having graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College.
He lived a rich life, first in Warren where he attended the First Presbyterian Church. He sang in the choir and took part in many church activities. He also sang in a Barbershop chorus, joined the local theater group, helped the Boy Scouts, played bridge and word search, and took his family to many cultural events. Summers were spent traveling or enjoying the cottage on Lake Erie.
In 1982, Dick and Karen moved to Florida to be near their son, Gary, and their grandchildren, Erin (Gus) and Jenna (Adam). Later their son, Jim and his wife Kim, moved nearby and there were more grandchildren, Troy, Kate (Nick), and Jon (Kristen). Then came his mother, Sarah, sister (Sally), brother (John) and even some hometown friends. Surrounded by friends and family life was again full with trips, cruises, plays and concerts, family gatherings and church – where he sang in the choir and he and Karen orchestrated many church suppers.
Dick was always a generous man, quietly making sure people were taken care of and that no one went without a gift at Christmas. Dick had a brilliant smile, often a mischievous grin and a genuine sparkle in his eyes. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his older brothers John and Robert and his son, Jim. He leaves behind his loving wife, one sister, a son and daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Lakeside Presbyterian, 4601 S. Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, Fl, 33405 on Sunday, June 8 at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Lakeside Presbyterian Church or the James H. Swick Mathematics Award at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
