Eleanor D. Thor

Eleanor D. Thor, 88, of Warren, formerly of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in her home. She was born Feb. 4, 1937 in Buffalo, NY and was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby Swanson Alger, Sr.

In earlier years, Eleanor was employed by AVM and then as a home healthcare aide. She then served as a nurse’s aide at the former Manor Oak Skilled Nursing Facility and ultimately at Heritage Village in Gerry.

She had been a member of Frewsburg Alliance Church, more recently attended Good News Community Church in Warren, and belonged to the Frewsburg Red Hatters.

Eleanor enjoyed reading her Bible, looked forward to going out to eat, and over the years gave of her time by sewing bibs for the elderly and others, as well as knitting scarves and mittens for the Salvation Army in Jamestown.

Surviving are four daughters, Gloria (Mark) Genberg with whom she made her home in Warren, Brenda Crouse of Jamestown, Cheryl Clark of Oregon, Ohio and Faith (Ralph) Silvis of Sugar Grove; and a son, David Gustafson of Jamestown. She’s also survived by stepchildren, Rick Thor, David Thor, Robin Cook, Diana Thor, Terry (Sandra) Lodico and Debbie Young; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her first husband, Alan Gustafson; second husband, Charles Lodico; and third husband, Richard Thor who died in 2016; two grandchildren, Timothy Crouse and Shawn Gustafson; a great-grandson, Angel Meszaros; two sisters, Alberta Fuller and Ruby Walsh; and two brothers, Clarence Alger, Jr. and Edward Alger.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29th in the Lind Funeral Home, led by Pastors Marc Samworth and Larry Condron. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service.
