Andrew J. Kegel

Andy, or Drew as he preferred to be known, was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Drifton, PA, the son of the late Andrew J. and Marie (Steward) Kegel. He graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1957. He then attended Drexel University, where he served on the gymnastic team and specialized in pommel horse. He was also a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity for 60 years. In 1962, Drew earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He was employed at GTE/Sylvania and Siemans as a metallurgical engineer for 40 years, and Northwestern Industries Albany, Oregon for three years.

Drew, known for his great sense of humor, had a joke for every occasion (sometimes a little risque!). He enjoyed the company of many close friends through his Blueberry Hill Golf Club and poker club memberships. Drew shared his love and talent for the piano and trombone, by playing with several Dixieland and Big Band/Jazz bands through the years including the Wyalusing Community Jazz Band, The Hotdog Band, and the Happy Days Band. He was in the Musician’s Union in Trenton, NJ. He most enjoyed listening to the music of Frank Sinatra and the Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney and Glenn Miller. He was also a classic car enthusiast and once owned a Porsche Roadster.

Drew is survived by his three children, Megan Nilon of Southhaven, MS, Kimberly Kegel-Gleason and husband Christopher Gleason of Andover, MA, and Heather Shepherd, and husband James Shepherd of Nashport, OH; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Pruyne of Columbia Crossroads, PA; two nephews; and his cousin Charles Lutz of Quakertown, PA, whom he thought of as a brother.

In addition to his parents, Drew was preceded in death by his wife, Bronwyn C. Kegel; and daughter, Jennifer Wilegus.
