Richard “Rick” D. Moore

Richard D. Moore, 79, of Warren, PA, passed away August 17, 2024. Rick was born September 26, 1944, in Kane, PA, to the late Richard W. Moore and Vesta McKinnon.

Rick graduated Sheffield High School in 1962. From 1962 to 1965 he honorably served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He went on to pursue a master’s degree in education at Edinboro University, graduating in 1968. He then worked throughout Warren County School district as a teacher for 31 ¢ years, and also owned and operated, Rick’s Lawn Care.

Rick was a council member for Saint Paul Lutheran Church. He was also a part of the Elk’s Lodge 223 and the Post 135 American Legion, and the Sheffield VFW, and the Struther’s Hose Club. In 2013, Rick was given the Veteran of the Year award, he was the coordinator for the Second Harvest Food Drive through the American Legion. He was also a member of the Warren Sports Boosters for a number of years. He was very active in the community, coaching basketball, flag football, and Eisenhower girls’ basketball. He was an avid sports fan, following Penn State football, Duke University basketball, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling in his spare time, and also enjoyed watching Law and Order, NCIS, and Seinfeld.

Rick is survived by two children, Darren Moore and wife Dawn of Warren, PA, and Debra Moore of Warren, PA; four grandchildren, Carson Moore, Kamryn Moore, Kohl Nosel, and Madelyn Nosel; one sister Carolyn McFarland of Shippenville, PA; two nephews, Micheal Grosch and Richard McFarland; and one niece Melissa Schmader.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death on December 12, 2023, by his wife Janelle C. Moore, whom he married in 1968.

Friends will be received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc, 1003 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, August 22, 2024, and for one hour prior to a funeral service at that will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Ave., Warren, PA, at 11:00am on Friday, August 23, 2024, with Reverend Heather Allport-Cohoon, pastor, officiating.
