Stephen Eugene Beyer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Eugene Beyer on May 13, 2024.

Steve was born on December 17, 1948, in Syracuse, New York to Lawrence “Larry” Eugene Beyer and Thelma “Jeanne” Dobson Beyer. The family soon moved back to Larry and Jeanne’s hometown of Warren, Pennsylvania.

Larry started his own company: Beck, Tinkham, and Beyer Architects in Jamestown, N.Y. and worked on various contracts with his father, Clair James Beyer, at Beyer Construction Company. Steve later interned with his family’s companies.

Steve grew up in Warren, spending much of his time at his paternal grandparents, Clair James and Ruth Beyer’s home with his younger brother Dana John Beyer and many cousins.

Steve developed a passion for photography and was the photographer for the Warren High School yearbook, The Dragon. Steve would continue to enjoy photography throughout his life. He was also a member of the Warren High School drumline. After high school, Steve graduated from the Triangle School of Drafting with a certificate in architecture design.

In 1969 Steve was drafted into the United States Air Force and spent a year serving in Saigon, Vietnam, as an aircraft engine mechanic, specializing in aircraft propeller repair. During this time, Steve worked on aircrafts, had opportunities to fly, and earned a brown belt in taekwondo.

Upon his return to the United States, he continued his education at the Delaware Technical and Community College, earning a degree in Architecture and Engineering Design Technology.

From 1976 to 1982, he honed his skills at Perdue, Inc. in Salisbury, Md. as a Facilities Designer/Draftsman and Construction Manager. Steve designed and built Perdue’s first computer room (a ground up 4,000 sqft. office and data center.

He then moved to Silver Spring, Md. and worked at Com-site, Inc , in Beltsville, Md in early 1982 and helped to design and build many computer rooms in the Baltimore/DC area.

In 1982 until 1996 he co-founded Compu Dynamics, Inc. in Fairfax, Virginia, where he served as Vice President. At this time he moved his family to Virginia.

He worked at Lee Technologies from 1996 – 2009 and held many different positions: Director – Facility Integration Group (FIG) Started a new division at Lee Technologies to provide data center design and construction services. VP of Strategic and Director of Business Development Steve served as a Consulting Engineering Account Manager (Southeast) for Schneider Electric from 2010 – 2014

Steve continued to work from 2016 until present at BFPE serving as Engineered Systems Representative for Data Centers

Steve had many hobbies over the years from his photography, golfing, gardening, cooking his favorite chili or homemade pizza, canning, watching Fox News, reading, brewing beer “Aster Haven Brewing” or simply sitting outside and taking in nature.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Larry, his mother, Jeanne, and his brother, Dana, affectionately known as “Red.”

Steve’s personal life was just as fulfilling as his professional one. He was married to Karen Beyer, and together they had three daughters: Amanda Romaine Smith, Kelly Jeanne Hoffman, and Dana Clair Beyer. All three daughters became teachers and are now working in the Fauquier County school system. Steve’s legacy also includes his four grandchildren: Jefferson Robert and Kennedy Jeanne Hoffman, and Madelyn Jane and Camdyn Clair Smith. Steve also leaves behind his beloved tabby cat, Matilda.
