Rodrick S. Pontious

Rodrick S. Pontious, 74, of Warren, PA, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at his residence.

Rodrick was born September 20, 1949, in Sheffield, PA, the son of the late Robert Pontious and Pauline E. Carlson Pontious. He graduated from Sheffield High School. He was a decorated Vietnam veteran. He served three tours in Vietnam where he was a 60mm Mortarman with C Company, 1st Bn, 5th Marines, of the 1st Marine Div. He also served as an embassy guard with the U.S. Marines. He later served as a U.S. Army Reserve Drill Sergeant where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. Rodrick was employed as a Sheriff’s Deputy for 29 years with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office from which he retired in 2004.

He loved spending time with his family, his dogs, the outdoors, and hunting. He was a member of the Garland Ridge Runners Muzzleloader Club. He loved to attend the rendezvous and compete in the muzzleloading competitions.

Rodrick is survived by his two children, Adam Pontious and Whitney Pontious, both of Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Jamie Gilson, Luke Wells, and Bryan Wells; sister, Peggy Olsen of Youngsville; and his beloved dogs, Griffyn and Tipperary.

In addition to his parents, Rodrick was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Pontious, who passed on December 15, 2021.

A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
