Diana J. Geer

Diana J. Geer

Diana J. Geer, age 77, of Crossville, TN passed away on April 30, 2024, while in care in Knoxville, TN. Diana was diagnosed with COPD in 2017 and suffered increasingly from the disease until her death. She battled against it fiercely until the end.

She was born on September 1, 1946, in Angola, IN to the late Max and Maxine (Rhinesmith) Wyatt. Diana lived most of her life in the Angola area.

Following graduation from Angola High School in 1964, Diana began a secretarial career working in the Treasurer’s office at Tri-State College in Angola. While working at Tri-State during the Winter Quarter of 1965 she met and later married Gerry Geer, while he was a student there. Diana and Gerry moved to Warren, PA, in 1967 where both played a part in the Geer family business. Following a divorce in 1970, Diana moved back to the familiar surroundings of Angola and Steuben County, IN. She was employed as a purchasing agent/secretary with Textron Corp. in Angola, until retirement in 2006.

Diana and classmate, Edward Johnson, were married for 33 years. They were very involved with their community, classmates, and family while they lived in Angola and Fremont, IN. She loved gardening and her swimming pool. Diana once received recognition from the Red Cross for saving the life of a choking baby. She was so humble, however, that she rarely spoke of it.

She relocated to Cary, NC after retirement, settling close to her daughter, Deborah; and grandsons, Mitchell and Roman, and she was an integral part of their growing up.

Diana and Gerry became reacquainted and closer following the loss of their youngest son, Robert, in 2009 and eventually married a second time in 2016 at the home of their son, Michael and partner Scott Dwyer, in Ft. Wayne, IN. The couple chose Crossville as the location for a new home in which to spend their retirement. Diana very much enjoyed the Crossville community and especially her neighbors at The Gardens Community, where she lived. She was a skilled knitter, enjoyed small art projects, and was an avid puzzler for the local library. Mostly, however, she enjoyed supporting her family and encouraging their success and happiness however she could. Everyone who met Diana will remember her laugh and smile. She was gentle, kind, and genuine.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robert, in 2009; and stepson, Steven in 2020.

She is survived by her husband, Gerry; daughter, Deborah Geer of Crossville, TN; son, Michael Geer and partner Scott Dwyer of Auburn , IN; 2 step-sons, Shannon and Shane Johnson; brother, Larry Wyatt of Angola, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and John McBride of Pleasant Lake, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Dick Bible of New Philadelphia, OH; 2 grandsons, Mitchel and Roman Glabicki of Cary, NC; 2 step-grandchildren, Todd and Kayla Johnson of Fremont, IN; and several nieces and nephews in Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The family is following through with Diana’s wishes for cremation and interment in the Geer family plot in Warren, PA.

The family is planning a memorial gathering for later in the year
