Margaret (Peggy) Ann Gillespie Barker Sasserson, 97, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024, in Portland, TN where she has resided for the past 10 years with her son Gary and his wife, Pam Barker.

Born in Erie, PA on June 12, 1926 to Robert and Margaret L. Gillespie, she lived in Erie until she graduated from high school. She attended Edinboro State College where she received her degree in teaching. On August 21, 1948, she married Gail T. Barker of Warren. They raised five children, Rebecca (Bekki), Victoria (Vicky), Gary, Sharon and Scot. In July of 1976 she married Curt Sasserson of Warren.

Peg resided in Warren for over 50 years where she was an active member of the Woman’s Club, the Eastern Star, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked for her father-in-law, Carl Barker, who owned the Warren Dry Cleaning Company, for many years until it closed in the 70’s. She was then employed by Warren National Bank which became PNC and worked there until she retired.

She enjoyed doing needlepoint, quilting, sewing, painting, knitting and was an avid reader. Her family and friends are proud recipients of her beautiful handwork.

When she wasn’t busy with her many projects, she enjoyed going out with friends for cocktails and enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards.

She is predeceased by her husband, Curt F. Sasserson; Gail Barker, the father of her children; and her son-in-law Douglas C. Sasserson.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Bonicelli of Phoenix, AZ, Victoria Sasserson of Limington, ME, Gary (Pam) Barker of Portland, TN, Sharon (Terry) Anthony of Russell, PA, Scot (Brenda) Barker of Fredericksburg, VA, sister-in-law, Cynthia R. Barker Hammersley of Warren, PA, and Curt’s children, Susan McPherson of Ocala, FL, Roxy Fadale of Clarendon, PA, Gordon (Marilyn) Sasserson of Gilford, NH, and Jeff (Teresa) Sasserson of Russell, PA. Having five children of her own, and Curt having five children, she is survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, a niece and three nephews. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
