Dennis Michael (Mike) Tome

Dennis Michael (Mike) Tome, 72 , of Fairfield, PA, reached his expiration date on March 2, 2024.

He was born on January 5, 1952, in Warren, PA, the eldest child of the late Byron and Joan (Swanson) Tome.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Chuburko Schwartz whom he married July 8, 1989, brother James (Kim Weaver) Tome, and sisters Kimberly (Mike) Hoffman, Kathy (Dan) Knupp, and Kerri Tome Heller and numerous nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports (GO Eagles!)(and eventually STEELERS and Pirates), cooking, country music, and gardening (he especially liked tomatoes), and loved his dogs through the years. Post-high school, Mike was prepared to enter the broadcasting industry. He started ‘on-air’ in small PA markets advancing to advertising sales and management within the industry. He advanced to account executive, sales manager, and general manager for radio stations in Harrisburg, PA, Frederick, MD and Lexington Park, MD.

In leaving the media market, his sales expertise extended to other areas. He retired as a realtor with Coldwell Banker Bob Yost Sites Real Estate, Gettysburg, PA. He held a variety of part-time jobs in retirement, including caregiving for family elders, and extended his volunteer efforts as HOA Board President where they resided of late.

Mike was well-read. He had a head full of sports statistics; politicians and positions (he would discuss any one of them with historical knowledge); and musicians of every ilk. He loved to laugh but did not smile often. He was a contrarian and did not take direction well, all while remaining a ‘team player’ with an independent base.

His wishes were to be cremated without visitation or services. If so desired, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Barto Post VFW Auxiliary, 65 Run Street, Slovan, PA 15078 in honor of his father-in-law WWII Army Veteran Steve Chuburko (1922-2007); Camp Sue Osborn, 8090 Broadmoor Road, Mentor, OH 44060 in remembranc of his nephew Aaron Heller (1982-2017); or an Animal Rescue of your choice. Thank you for your kindness.
