Gary E. Kohler

Gary E Kohler, 85, of Sugar Grove, Pa. passed away suddenly at his winter home on Pine Island, Fla. on April 1, 2023.

He was born Oct. 28, 1937 in Warren: son of Clayton Kohler and Laura Hottel Kohler.

He was married to Beryl Mae Anderegg and they would have celebrated their 64th anniversary on April 24.

Gary was a veteran, serving in the Naval Reserves aboard the USS Rizzi.

He was also a proud union man, working as a journeyman electrician out of IBEW Local 56 until his retirement in 1999.

He could fix anything and always had a project going, whether it be the remote control model airplanes he built to the three bedroom underground house he built in Sugar Grove which received much news coverage. He loved all things space related and was thrilled to have seen the live launch of Apollo 15 on a family trip to Florida. On Wednesdays for many years, he could be found shooting trap for Sugar Grove I in the Warren Co Trap League. He loved all things space related and was thrilled to have seen the live launch of Apollo 15 on a family trip to Florida. did love his beer, and after a few, could sometimes be encouraged to play a tune on his ukulele and sing a ditty, usually an ode to the love of his life, Beryl. He never let his kids forget how much he loved their mother. Oh, and the Buffalo Bills, he loved them too.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his children, Cindy Sanders (Dave Foyer) Franklin, Pa., Rob Kohler (Connie) National Park, NJ., and his son in law, Dave Hitchcock; his grandchildren, Bob Sanders, Jessica Ferguson (Mike), Cody Hitchcock (Kristi), Kari Rouse (Ben) and Tyler Kohler; his five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his two siblings, Shirley Betts and Jeannene Sheckells, a sister in law, Arlene Clark and brother in law, Rich Grignol.

Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny Hitchcock, son in law, Chris Sanders, brothers in law, Mike Clark and Charles Sheckells and sister in law, Lynne Grignol.

A celebration of life is planned for this summer.
