Richard F. (Dick) Hofer

Richard F. (Dick) Hofer of Hendersonville, NC died at Carolina Village on Jan. 24, 2023.

He was born March 24, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Paula Brosch Hofer and Frank Hofer. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Gardner Hofer and his sister Joan Hofer Endzvick. During WWII he served as a Mission Specialist in the Army Air Corps stationed at a B-17 base in England. After the war, Dick graduated from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. His career brought him to National Forge Co. near Warren, PA in 1960. He retired in 1986 as the Director of Quality Assurance and moved to Hendersonville, NC. Prior to retirement, he enjoyed his small farm in Youngsville, PA where he grew his favorite vegetables and rode his beloved horses.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, and four children : Richard “Rick” L. Hofer with wife Mary of Mentor, OH; Linda Hofer with husband Bob Bonacorsi of Bakersfield, CA; Joan Hofer with husband Larry Finkel of Colorado Springs, CO; and Thomas “Tom” Hofer of Old Hickory, TN; also eight grandchildren: Todd R. Hofer of Stow, OH; Emily Hofer Gausman of Warren PA; Eric W. Hofer of Erie, PA; Meg Bonacorsi of Austin, TX; Gus Bonacorsi of Bakersfield, CA; Elise Hofer McKelvey of Nashville, TN; Tyler Hofer of Romania; and Carter Hofer of Louisville, KY: also several great-grandchildren.

Dick spent many of his retirement years as a volunteer worker at Habitat for Humanity, delivering Meals on Wheels, sang with the Barbershoppers (from Asheville), and was a long-time member of the Golden K Kiwanis. He was also an accomplished woodworker and specialized in building Windsor chairs.

Memorials may be given to Habitat for Humanity.
