James R. Penley Sr.

James R. Penley Sr., 70, of Sugar Grove, passed away unexpectedly Saturday December 10, 2022 at his residence.

He was born August 2, 1952 in Sydney, OH, to the late Calvin and Zella Thorton Penley. James served in the US Marine Corps in the engineering division. During his life he worked in many fields that related to trucking transport and heavy equipment operation. In his last years he was involved with equipment and facilities maintenance. He was presently working as head of maintenance at the White Pine Lodge in Salamanca, NY, a job he saw as one of his favorite jobs and work families he had ever had.

During his life he was very involved in the community, being a longtime member and supporter of the Chief Cornplanter Boy scout troop in Warren, PA. He also spent many years coaching baseball and being in leadership positions in the Upper Allegheny Baseball League and the Warren County Little League. He also was a loved working on his family farm and working in his greenhouse, where he was most proud of growing producing lemon trees in NW PA.

James is survived by his 4 sons, James R. (Debra) Penley Jr. of Sugar Grove, Erik R. Penley of Sugar Grove, Steven E. (Dena) Penley of Warren and Adam Penley and his companion Brook of Russell, his siblings, Linda (Jim) Pompillo of Lander, Karen (Curt) Briggs of Russell, Jerry Penley of Florida and Bud Penley of West Virginia, his grandchildren, Amber, Caleb, Rebecca and Logan Penley, Haden Morse, RJ Rodgers, Paige and Carter Penley and Mikenzie and Shawn Miller and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Linda Lou Penley on March 27, 2016, and an infant son Lee R. Penley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
