Richard C. “Dick” Broxton of South Abington Township, Pa., died on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, in Peckville, Pa., with his family by his side, holding his wife’s hand.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 14, 1931, to Alfred Broxton and Elizabeth Carter Broxton.

Dick was the devoted husband of Mary Alice White Broxton. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

He was the father of four children: Richard Broxton Jr. (Judy), Kimberley McMichael (James, deceased), Brian Broxton and Jennifer Krist (Alex). He was also the proud Papa of nine grandchildren: Emily Broxton, Adam Broxton (Julie), Jesse McMichael, Kyle McMichael, Abby McMichael, Erin Shenk, Benjamin Broxton, Alison Helms (DJ) and Nathaniel Broxton. He had ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

During high school, Dick earned his private pilot’s license. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. While stationed at Kinross AFB in Michigan, he met the lovely Mary Alice White, whom he married on Aug.11, 1956.

He spent 11 years going to night school to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, while holding multiple jobs and raising a family. Dick tried to learn something new every day and recently finished reading the entire Bible. He also enjoyed learning about U.S. history by reading and traveling to historical sites around the country.

Dick worked as a business office manager for Bell of PA in Warren, Pa., Stroudsburg, Pa., and Scranton, Pa., until his retirement.

After retiring from the phone company, he worked at Ritz Camera, where he was his own best customer.

Dick was a jack of all trades, generous, and always willing to help anyone in need. He was an avid golfer and an award-winning photographer. Dick was a member of photography clubs in Warren and Stroudsburg and was one of the first members of the Scranton-based Northeast Photography Club. He loved music and movies. He volunteered for a variety of organizations including the Warren County, PA Fair Board, Kiwanis Club of Warren, Pa., Telephone Pioneers, Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity, spending several weeks in Mississippi helping to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.

A devout Christian, Dick served as a deacon and an elder in Presbyterian churches in Warren, East Stroudsburg, and Clarks Summit.

Dick was a life member of VFW Post 7069, serving for several years as the post’s adjutant and Buddy Poppy Campaign Chairman. He also served as a Trustee in VFW District 10.

Special thanks to Dick’s caring neighbors, who always watched out for him as he continued to live independently, to the staff and his roommate, John at Aventura at Terrace View for their kindness and grace, and to our team at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, whose wisdom and compassion helped us navigate this difficult time. We are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following organizations, which were dear to Dick’s heart: Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Clarks Summit, Pa., Keystone Mission, Scranton, Pa. or Habitat for Humanity.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
