Dorothy Ann Stearns

Dorothy Ann Stearns, 91, of Kiantone Road, Jamestown, passed away Saturday (Sept. 3, 2022) in Keeper of the Flame Personal Care Home in Blairsville, Pa.

A lifelong area resident she was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late George A. and Emily A. Carlberg Clark Sr.

Dorothy was a graduate of Falconer High School and Jamestown Community College with a degree as a registered nurse. In earlier years, she was employed by Bradford Hospital and prior to retirement was employed by WCA Hospital, retiring in 1995.

She was a member of the Ashville Wesleyan Methodist Church and had served as Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and church pianist. Dorothy was also a member of the Kiantone Historical Society and enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and cross stitch. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are five children: Allen (Ruth) Stearns of Ashville, Linda (Thomas) Mitchell of Penns Creek, Pa., Gayle (Dennis) Stratton of Ashville, Sharon (Rob) Smith of Blairsville, Pa., and Melanie (Dale) Bennett of Youngsville, Pa.; 18 grandchildren: Michelle Abers, Bruce Stearns, Daniel Smith, Scott Smith, Amber Mowery, William Stratton, Thomas Stratton, Chip Stratton, Julie Dorman, Randall Stratton, Steven Harris, Wendy Harbison, Graham Smith, Grant Smith, Grady Smith, Gray Smith, Edward Bennett and Mindy Sue Cotton; 48 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; and two stepsisters: Joyce Devine and JoAnn Jones.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Stearns Jr., whom she married April 18, 1951, in Levant, N.Y., and who died Oct. 25, 2005; two brothers: G. Allen Clark Sr. and Philip Clark; and her step-mother, Artensia Crawford Clark.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Ashville Wesleyan Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Steese, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday in the church.
