Dorothy Bella Higgins

Dorothy Bella “Dottie” Higgins, 89, of Warren, Pa., died Friday, July 29, 2022, at Rouse Home, Youngsville, Pa., after an extended illness. Dorothy was born April 13, 1933, in the Greater Boston Area. She was the daughter of James and Bella Beattie. She had resided in the Warren area since 1963, and was formerly of Boston, Mass., and Dunkirk, N.Y.

She was employed with the Warren County School District as a librarian, working at the former Beaty Jr. High School for many years. She was a member of the Warren Woman’s Club, Warren Garden Club, Warren Antique Study Club. She was a very active volunteer with the Warren General Hospital, earning a 1000 hour’s pin and planted numerous gardens throughout downtown Warren with the garden club. She was also very involved with the PTU at Pleasant Township Elementary School and volunteered with many activities at Grace United Methodist Church.

Dottie is survived by her son, James Allen Higgins and wife, Anne; her beloved grandchildren: Abigail and Drew Higgins, all of Warren, Pa.; and her great-granddaughter, Willow Bascom, who affectionately called her “Gigi.”

She is also survived by her sister, Edith Beattie of Boston, Mass.

Her brother-in-law, Reg Sauer of Delmar, N.Y. and his children: Sandy Goodrich and family of Glenmont, N.Y., and Scott Sauer and family of Delmar, N.Y.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Allen Higgins who passed away on Aug. 11, 2008; and her sister. Anne Sauer of Delmar, N.Y.

Friends may call at Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Pennsylvania Ave. East, Warren, Pa.. on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, one hour prior to a funeral service to be held there at 1 p.m., with the Rev. William Beatty, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, Pa.
