Don C. Norris, 95, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday. He was born in Canon City, CO, son of the late Russell S. Sr. and Mildred H. (Genness) Norris. He married Vivian Hovis in 1964.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years; two sons; Matt and Todd; three grandsons: Kaige, Creed, Ian; and a granddaughter, Nicole.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Jr. and a sister, Rebecca.

Don graduated from Warren High School in 1944 and from Radio School at the United States Naval Training Station Sampson (NY) after basic training there.

He also attended Oklahoma A&M and Carnegie Tech for Architecture and was employed as a Registered Architect by Hayes, Large Associates for 32 years.

Don served during WW2 as a Radioman 3rd Class in the Pacific Theater on the USS Olmstead, APA 188, USS Slater, DE 766, USS Cates, DE 763.

He was the secretary for American Society of Marine Artists and active with Destroyer Escorts Sailors Association. He was on the board of trustees for USS Slater Museum in Albany NY and participated in her restoration into his 80’s.

Don was active with Altoona Chapter of Sea Cadets and was President of the Navy League from 1999 to 2000.

He was an avid skier, swimmer, golfer, and tennis player. Don loved to paint and sketch maritime and outdoor scenes.

He enjoyed swimming at the Hollidaysburg YMCA and was on the competition team until his mid 80’s.

At the request of the deceased, all services are private at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
