Shirley A. Whaley
Shirley A. Whaley, 71, of Erie, passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2021.
She was born in Warren, Pa., on Dec. 4, 1949, daughter of Virginia Maze and the late Virgil Maze.
Shirley was a 1967 graduate of Youngsville High School and received an associate degree from Rochester Business Institute.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Shirley worked with the Benedictine Sisters for 30 years, working at Camp Glinodo, The Mount, House of Healing, and lastly for Emmaus Ministries, retiring in 2020.
She was an avid gardener and had previously been a Girl Scout leader and an EMT with Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department. Shirley especially loved time spent with her grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, Shirley is survived by one daughter, Crystal Whaley; four brothers: Jack (Cathy), Jim (Charlotte), Ted (Nancy) and Tim (Steph) Maze; one granddaughter, Samantha Hillyard (Kyle); two great-grandchildren: Kellin and Avery; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her in-laws,, Albert and Doris Whaley.
Friends will be received at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 4701 Old French Road, on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald Baxter.
