Wyllis Mead Jr.

Wyllis W. “Will” Mead, Jr., 90, of Warren, Pa., died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2021, at the John & Orpha Blair Hospice Home, Warren, Pa.

He was born Nov. 23, 1930, at his home in Stone-ham, Pa. He was the son of Wyllis W. and Alice John-son Mead Sr.

Will was a longtime Warren area resident and a 1948 graduate of Warren High School. He had served with the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He was employed with the former G.T.E. Syl-vania, now known as Ver-izon for 36 years, retiring in July of 1986 as pro-curement manager.

Will was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he was an active member in numerous activities.

Will was the oldest member of the Kalbfus Rod & Gun Club where he was a member since 1955. Former member of the Cir-cle 8 Square Dancing Group. He was a master woodworker, building numerous cherry wood fur-niture and award-winning sectional bowls.

Wyllis is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carol Stewart Mead, whom he married Oct. 28, 1950, at Warren, Pa.; four Children: Dan Mead and wife, Wen-dy of State College, Pa., Jeff Mead of Warren, Pa., James Mead and wife, Peg of Corry, Pa., and Carolyn Fry and husband, Corky of Warren, Pa.; one sister, Sandy Reynolds of Engle-wood, Fla.; eight grandchil-dren; 12 great-grandchil-dren; and several nephews nieces also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Mead; a grandson, Eric Mead; one sister , Pat Yeagle, his fa-ther and mother-in-law, Pete and Marion Stewart.

A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family with the Rev. William Beatty, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak-land Cemetery.
