George E. Greis

George E. Greis passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, due to complica-tions from a lung transplant, he was 70.

George was born on April 19, 1950 to Catherine (Rhoads) Greis Ehst and George E. Greis Sr. in Pottstown, P.A. George worked as a professional truck driver for 21 years. He then purchased Weidner’s Deli, located in Zern’s Farmers Market, Gilbertsville P.A., with his wife Shelley. They were in the market for more than 30 years, until Zern’s closed in 2018.

He especially enjoyed working the counter and visiting with the customers, who quickly became friends. During that time, he developed his jerky and snack stick recipes. He and Shelley then opened a processing plant in Youngsville, P.A., called Genuine Jerky.

In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, and walking the fields with his favorite dog Tar. He loved going fishing at Wildwood, N.J. in the summer and ski trips to Vermont and New York in the winter. He and Shelley took many great trips. His favorite trip was to Alaska where he was ex-cited to fish for Alaskan Salmon and caught one! George was a connoisseur of nicknames for all of his customers and friends.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Shelley Olsen Greis. His daughter S. Joal and Jerry Sweigart and their children; Bailie Sweigart; Zack and Sara Sweigart and family; Courtney and Russell Hoch and family; KC and Enrique Urbina and family; and Tyler and Jackie Sweigart and family.

His son, Samuel Manno and Elda Santos and their family; Tyler Manno, Seth Manno, Jacey Manno, and Katela and Ashley Villasenor.

George adored his grandchildren; they brought such joy to his life.

George is also survived by: his beloved sister & brother-in-law, Mary Kay and Donnie Heimbach and their children; Heather and Kevin Fronheiser and family; Josh and Kelly Heimbach and family; Jill and Jarred Koch and family; Clint and Jen Heimbach and family. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Kathy Olsen and their children, Colby and Kristy and family, and Trevor and Regan and family. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law Todd and Sue Olsen and their children Katie and Andy. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law Brian and Kelly Olsen and their children Piper and Zane. His father-in-law Elmer Wiles.

Other special people in George’s life were Scott Wilson, who was a great friend and caretaker, get-ting him back and forth to dialysis. Dori and John Derr, and Noelle and Chad Sobjak.

George was preceded in death by his parents, step-father William Ehst, and his very special niece Ally Heintz.

Visitations for George will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, P.A. CDC protocols concerning social distancing and gathering limits will be followed. Masks are required for entry. A private funeral will be held for family members on Monday.
