Thomas J. Dunn

Thomas J. Dunn, 81, of Sheffield, passed away peacefully, of Parkinsons Disease, on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at the Rouse Home in Youngville.

Tom was born April 19, 1939, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Robert Charles Dunn and Shirley R. Dunn.

He lived in Sheffield his entire life. He was a graduate of Sheffield High School and furthered his education with a bachelors degree in teaching from Pennsylvania State University. He taught for the Warren Area School District for 40 years, 19 years in Youngsville and 21 of which were in Sheffield. He married Shelva Jean (Cochran) Dunn on Sept. 10, 1960.

Tom was a faithful member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Sheffield, where he was very active. He sang in the church choir and held many positions within the church over the years, including assistant minister. He was a former leader of the Boy Scout Troop 35 of Sheffield and enjoyed hiking the 100 mile hike on the North Country Trail with the boys. He was a member and past master of North Star Lodge 241 of Warren. Tom was well known for playing the bag pipes in the area along with his good friend Bob Carlson. Tom was an administrative member of the Sheffield Area Food Pantry and Thrift Store, where he held the Office of president until his passing. Tom was a quiet, humble, Christian man who will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him, especially those of the Sheffield community.

Left behind to cherish Toms memory are his loving wife, Jean of 60 years at home; his son, Thomas M. Dunn Jr. of Sheffield; a brother, Robert C. (Donna) Dunn of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robin Dunn; and a sister Sheila Dunn.

There will be no calling hours for Thomas J. Dunn. A public graveside memorial service will be announced at a later date, to be held at the Sheffield Cemetery and will be officiated by theRev. Jeff Ewing, of First Lutheran Church of Warren, The North Star Lodge 241 of Warren and fellow members will conduct a Masonic service at that time, as well as the Boy Scout Troop 35 of Sheffield paying tribute.

Box 721, Sheffield, PA 16347 or the Bethany Lutheran Church, PO Box 824 of Sheffield, PA 16347.
