Mary L. Smith, 95, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Prosperity Pointe Assisted Living in Knoxville, Tenn. She resided in Knoxville for the past 11 years living with her daughter, Jeanne and son-in-law, Rick Driscoll.
She lived most of her life in Youngsville and Sugar Grove, Pa. She was born Feb. 1, 1925, to Samuel John Armstrong and Edith Christine Bennett. She married Harold (Bunk) Elwood Smith on Aug. 9, 1947. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies and Scottish reel cookies by nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
She enjoyed her family, reading and doing ceramics at Linda Marino’s Ceramic Shop in Lander Pa. She loved going shopping and out to eat (especially ice cream) with her daughter, Jeanne. Mary was a member of the Youngsville Chapter – Order of the Eastern Star and attended the Youngsville Evangelical United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Driscoll (Rick) of Knoxville, Tenn.; her grandchildren: Chad (Mindy) Driscoll of Warren, Pa., and Eric (Amanda) Driscoll of Pittsburgh, Pa. She has four great- grandchildren: Riley, Alaina, Akoshea and Christin.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Robert Allen Smith on Dec. 18, 1959; and her brother, Samuel J Armstrong II on June 5, 1974.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 28, at 1 p.m., at the Knoxville First United Methodist Church (Riverside Pavilion), 3316 Kingston Pike, TN 37919 and on Saturday, July 11, 1 p.m., at McKinney Funeral Home, 54 W. Main St., Youngsville, PA 16371. The family will visit the gravesites of her husband and son at the Youngsville Cemetery and mother, father and brother at the Starbrick Cemetery.
