Mamie Scalise Spear

Mamie Scalise Spear, 92, of Warren, Pa,, passed away Saturday morning, May 23, 2020, at the home of her son in Highland Heights, Ohio.

Born March 4, 1928, in Warren, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Frances Scalise.

Mamie had lived in Warren for most of her life. She had been employed at Blair Corp. for 28 years in the Correspondence Deprtment, and had been an active member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church. Upon retirement, she loved to stay busy by volunteering, gardening, knitting, playing cards and baking cookies. She enjoyed her friends at the Allegheny Community Center and the Warren Bocce Club, and she loved to watch her grandchildren’s activities, including sports.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Ann Zehender and her husband, David, of Midlothian, Va.; her son, Thomas Michael Spear and his wife, Theresa, of Highland Heights, Ohio; and five grandchildren: Nicholas (Amy), Laura Zehender, and Charley, Carey (Vanessa), and Colin Spear.

In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Paul Spear, whom she married on July 1, 1950, in Youngsville, Pa., and who died on March 22, 1981; three brothers; Richard Scalise, James Scalise and Anthony Scalise Jr.; one sister,Marie Cole; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at the convenience of the family at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 11 Russell St., Warren, Pa., with Father Stephen Schreiber, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
