Hobart M. Kern Jr.

Hobart “Hobie” M. Kern, Jr., 91, of Warren, passed away on March 26, 2020, at the Rouse Home.

Hobie was born on August 26, 1928, in Northampton, PA, to the late Hobart and Estella Kern.

Upon graduating from high school, Hobie went to work for the Fuller Company in Catasauqua, PA. He left to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then returned to the Fuller Company, where he remained until he moved to Warren in 1967, Once in Warren, he began working for Struthers Wells, which he retired from after 23 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 367 Fullerton, PA, the Warren Elks Club, and the Warren Masons. Hobie was an avid boater and camper, known by fellow campers as “the mayor of Morrison Run” (Kinzua Dam) from his many years of camping there. He also bowled in several local leagues and enjoyed golfing at Blueberry Golf Course.

Hobie is survived by his wife of 71 years, Grace I. (Neuman) Kern; his children, Hobart (Lee) Kern, of Greenville, NC, John Kern of Cary, NC, and Barbra Kern of Buffalo, NY; his graddaughter, Jessica Kern; stepgrandson, Michael Suffoletto; stepgranddaughter, Anita Arrigo; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Hobie is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Kern, and his seven siblings.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.

It has been requested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
