Yvonne Thompson

Yvonne S. Thompson, nee Stephenson, of Russell, formerly of Levittown, PA and Zephyrhills, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2020 in Warren, PA.

Bonnie was born on December 24, 1934 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Hugh L. and Mary Agnes (Hutcheson) Stephenson. She was a 1952 graduate of Huntsville High.

Bonnie was active in her community and church throughout her life, serving as PTA president and Girl Scout leader, among many other volunteer positions. Bonnie was always up to new challenges and definitely ahead of her time. A working mother from the 1950’s on, she attended college (Bucks County CC) as her children grew up, and took on “newfangled” computers 20 years ago in her mid60s.

She was proud of her career as a school bus driver. On her own time, she learned ASL to communicate more effectively with hearingimpaired children on her school bus. Bonnie was remembered fondly by many students she’d driven after her retirement from the Bristol Township School District, Bucks County, PA.

Bonnie enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband. Throughout their travels they visited all 50 states and numerous countries. They were longtime members of the (Airstream) Wally Byam Caravan Club International. Bonnie enjoyed working with her hands and making crafts, excelling in everything from ceramics to plastic canvas to cross stitch.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Thompson, Bonnie will be dearly missed by her children, Stephanie (Alan) Lachel, Fairfax, VA and Janet (Byron) Jespersen, Russell, PA; grandchildren Yvonne, Michael, and Kenneth; 2 adoring greatgranddaughters; a brother Herbert (Ann) Stephenson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As well as her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, John W. Thompson; her brothers James R., Charles E., Francis M., and Patrick J. Stephenson; and a sister, Marilyn Joan Stephenson.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ruth M. Smith Center, 407 S. Main Street, Sheffield, PA 16347.
