Martha Winans
Martha J. Winans, 90, of Warren, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the John and Orpha Blair Hospice House.
Martha was born on April 30, 1929, in Warren, to the late Cecil and Helen Winans.
She was a graduate of Warren High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. She worked as a schoolteacher in Western NY for approximately 10 years and then she became a congressional aide in Washington, DC, from which she retired. She was the owner and editor of the U.S. Citizen Inc., a periodical, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Warren.
Martha enjoyed many things including, sailing in the Caribbean and East Coast on a private sailboat, reading and gardening. She loved her four dogs, which were all rescue dogs. She also enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzles, with a pen. Martha enjoyed her family and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her children, Patricia (Edward) Besch, of Westfield, NY, and Thomas (Aneka) Collord, Amsterdam, Holland; her brothers, David Sr. (Toni) Winans, of Warren, PA and Dennis W. (Toni) Winans, of Charlottesville, VA; four grandchildren, Maxwell and Macy Besch and Gregory and Elizabeth Collord; her great-grandson, Ryker Besch; and her nieces and nephews, Julie Winans McTavish, David Winans and Jillian Winans.
There will be no viewing, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family has requested memorial donations be given to PAWS Along the River, 212 Elm St, Warren, PA 16365.
