Jeremiah C. (Jerry) Borden, 77, of Sheffield passed away early Saturday morning August 10, 2019 at home. He was born April 27, 1942 in Kane, PA to Francis L. and Edna E. (Peterson) Borden. Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Sheffield High School and attended Clarion University for two years. He then went on to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1963. He returned home to work with his father and grandfather as the fourth generation funeral director at the Borden Funeral Home in Sheffield. Jerry served over fifty years as funeral director for Sheffield and surrounding area. In 1993, he was elected to the office of Warren County Coroner Serving that office for twentyfive years. He was a lifelong member of the Sheffield United Methodist Church where he held many offices as well as choir director. In 1966, Jerry joined the Sheffield Vol. Fire Dept. he held the positions of fire chief for thirteen years, as well as assistant fire chief for fourteen years, and presently holding the positions of safety officer and trustee. He continued to be an active member up until his passing. Jerry was also a member of the North Star Lodge 241 F&AM Coudersport Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine, Coudersport class namesake, member of Choir 1965 to present, a MSA recipient , and a thirtythird degree Mason. He is survived by his wife Judith A. (Kress) Borden whom he married on June 27, 1964 in Pittsburgh, PA., his son Robert F. Borden and his wife June of Sheffield, his daughter Beth A. Borden of Sheffield, also by five Grandchildren Devin J. Borden, Kaitlyn M. Borden, Alexis Colvin, Hannah Colvin, and Laura Colvin. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth A. Vincent of Clover, S.C., also three nieces and two nephews. Jerry’s family will welcome family and friends on Tuesday August 13, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield, and visitation will also be held on Wednesday August 14, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sheffield United Methodist Church where a celebration of life service will follow at 11 AM with church pastor Douglas Brink officiating. Masonic Services will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM as well as services by the Sheffield Vol. Fire Dept. at 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the Sheffield Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Sheffield United Methodist Church, the Sheffield Vol. Fire Dept., or the Sheffield Ambulance Service.
