Norine Jordan

Norine H. Jordan was born in Akeley, Pennsylvania on May 20, 1929, to parents Nathaniel and Hallie Holt. She died in Houston, Texas on Monday, December 3, 2018. She was 89.

Born to Hallie Grace Martin and Nathaniel Sill Holt, Norine was the youngest of six children. Growing up on the Holt family’s farm, she began to play the piano at age three with her brothers and played regularly for church by 9. She went on to graduate from the Warren Conservatory of Music in 1948 and eventually The University of Houston where she earned the Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance in 1985.

Despite a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, she never complained about her illness and remained an active member of her church and a steadfast friend to all those in her community.

She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Jordan, Victor, and Eric Granquist; stepchildren Emily Oaks, Bill, John, Ed, and Andy Jordan; granddaughters Hallie Jordan, Linnea, and Laura Granquist, and 10 stepgrandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her first husband of 26 years William T. Granquist and second of 22 years John “Spike” Jordan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12 at 12:30 p.m. at Akeley United Methodist Church followed by the graveside committal at Hale Cemetery at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the church.
