Laura Hummell

Dr. Laura Johnson Hummell, 50, of Charleroi, PA, and formerly of Youngsville, passed away Saturday December 8, 2018 at the Penn State Medical Center in Hershey. PA, as a result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian hit and run accident that occurred on Monday, November 26th in Harrisburg.

Laura was born June 13, 1968 in Warren to Paul Johnson, who survives her of Youngsville and the Late Judy Cadile Johnson. She was a 1986 graduate of Youngsville High School where she excelled in the band as drum major her senior year and choir. After Graduation, she went to Penn State University earning her BA in English, then received her master’s in technology education from Old Dominion. She recently received another master’s in educational law from the California University of PA. One of her proudest moments was receiving her doctoral degree in education from East Carolina University. She had been previously employed at Manteo Middle School in NC, and then as a professor at Cal U for 8 years, teaching technology education. She was currently employed with the Department of Education as the technology and engineering education advisor. Laura was deeply involved with the Technology Student Assoc. and served on the National TSA board of directors from the State to the National level. She was also a member of the Krew of NYX, a charitable organization of New Orleans. Laura was a passionate educator, lifelong learner, and proud mother, not only to her 3 children, but also to every student she taught. She was an avid adventurer, always planning her next visit to the Outer Banks, NC or New Orleans, LA. If there was something that Laura wanted to accomplish, experience, or take part in, no one could stand in her way. We will never really know just how many lives she touched, but she will be missed by so, so many.

In addition to her father, Laura is survived by her best friend and husband, Jeffrey Allen Hummell, whom she married on June 27, 1992 in Youngsville, her 3 children, Emily, Jeffrey Jr. and Glenn Hummell, all of Charleroi, PA, her siblings Sherry Johnson, and her companion Jared Bloomgren of Lander, and Paul (Kim) Johnson of Warren, her aunt, Dr. Beverly Yerg of Tallassee, FL, her nieces, Paige and Kirsten Johnson and a nephew Jacob Stover and many cousins.

Friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday December 15, 2018 at 2 pm at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 179 Davis St. Youngsville, PA. Visitation will be from noon until 2pm. The Rev. Nancy Schwanke, pastor of the Inner Faith Chapel, will be officiating. One of Laura’s favorite charities was Toys for Tots, and the family encourages that, in lieu of flowers, for donations to be made there at toysfortots.org.
